System Requirements

Progress Software means you have the greatest flexibility in choosing your hardware platforms and operating systems.  Below are some general guidelines regarding the best configuration for most customers:

Clients 

  • Windows 2000/XP
  • Intel Pentium/Celeron, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron, or compatible processor; 300mhz or higher
  • Super VGA (800x600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor
  • 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher
  • 1 megabyte (MB) of available hard disk space
  • Network adapter
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.1 or higher

Server

  • Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000 Server, Redhat Enterprise Linux 2.1, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8, TurboLinux Enterprise Server 8, IBM AIX 5.2, HP-UX 11, Sun Solaris Sparc 9
  • (20 users) Intel XEON processor or compatible, 1ghz or higher
  • (50 users) Intel XEON processor or compatible, 1ghz or higher (x2)
  • (20 users) 1 gigabyte (GB) of RAM or higher
  • (50 users) 2 gigabyte (GB) of RAM or higher
  • 500 megabytes (MB) of available hard disk space, plus additional space for databases (100MB+ dependent on volume of data and transactions)
  • (optional/preferred) SCSI RAID-1 configuration; RAID 5 is not recommended
  • Network adapter
  • CD-ROM drive
  • Note: the server should not serve as a domain controller
The Progress RDBMS (relational database management system) that runs on the server will scale to well over 1000 users.  Please call for system requirements when planning hardware purchases for more than 50 users.
